SAN FRANCISCO, JULY 17, 2011 – The Maltese Embassy is pleased to present new paintings and drawings by Oakland artist Frank Theophani Callozzo. The exhibition runs from August 12th to September 24th, 2011. An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 12th from 7-10PM and is free and open to the public.

Frank Theophani Callozzo’s glyphic imagery evokes archetypal approaches to narrative symbol. Made of close-knit, geometric lines and cascading colored dots, Callozzo’s abstract totemic figures and nonrepresentational forms call to mind ancient petroglyphs and form constants (geometric patterns often observed during altered states of consciousness). Floating in space and free of context, Callozzo’s almost shamanistic drawings are structures of cosmological and mystical wonder surrounded by a culture increasingly dominated by logos.

The Maltese Embassy is the newest gallery in San Francisco, opening in August of 2011. A tiny ambassador of art, we are dedicated to showcasing emerging artists with a focus on craftsmanship, concept, and aesthetic. We strive to encourage the creative act by enriching the public with art exhibits and by connecting fine artworks with those who desire them, be they seasoned collectors, businesses, or first-time art buyers.
